Social network

We have done two social media pages for our artist in order to connect with their personal audience and able to get notice and feedback for our work.

we thought this was necessary to do as many artist today have to communicate with their audience via social networks such as Facebook and Instagram which is why we chose these two social networks as they are the most popular way to reach our teen/young adult target audience.

we have uploaded behind the scene pictures and videos also parts of our rough cut just like and real artist would.

Representations

Representations are the way that the media portrays particular groups, communities or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective. Representation is not a real version of events it is constructed.

• Gender in our print production would be represented by the images that we are going to use, we are going to be using the female gender throughout the print production as our artist is female. Different audiences would find different images more attractive and appealing. The images that we want to use are revealing but not too revealing (this would attract some male audiences). Although the images that we are going to use are going to be natural (this would attract a female audience)
• Age would be represented in the print prodction by the artist and the text that would be shown within the print production and the song lyrics it self. This is so that the artist would attract a larger audience because it would be suitable for ages. Although the video is quite revealing and sexual this would attract an older audiece.
• The representations of  people would be mainly the female gender this is because our artist is female, although we would like to attract a male audience so the way that she would be represented would be so that males would have an attrcation.
• Representation of ideology is presented through the values, attitudes and beliefs that we represent for the audience. We would try to make the artist so that she would attract a larger audience even though we are targeting a niche audience rather than a mainstream.

Record label Ninja Tunes

We have decided to go with the record label Ninja Tunes.
Ninja tunes are an independent record label that acquire for niche artist.They are based in London and work closely with UK artist and also international artist.
Due to audience research we found out that most people would prefer her to be a niche market as they seem to be more personal and true to themselves.
Ninja Tunes are well known for their funky style and strong commitment to their to their jobs.
They have many genre artist within their record label such as reggae,pop,R&B,indie Trip-hop and hip-hop.That is one of the major reasons why we chose this record label to as they are open to many genres and because our artist herself is inspired by various genres she would fit in perfectly and not have to change her style and image which mostly happens in mainstream record labels as they want those that 'sell'.
Ninja Tunes also act with many other creative networks such as 'Flying Lotus' the record label and 'imprint' and 'the graphic vision of openmind' which deal with the graphics and print production.

Independent VS Major record labels

What is an independent record company?

An independent record company is a music company that financially depends on itself to promote an artist without funding  from other organisations (sponsors,marketing deals).

What is a Major record company?

A major record company is highly promoted through mainstream acts and affiliated marketing companies through the technique of using synergy (major label's artist music is featured in movies,adverts,games and technology).They usually receive funding from a range of organisations because of their popularity. The artist's signed on their labels receive a budget which helps pay for an array of things such as their tours,studio  recording sessions,stylists ,playing their songs on commercial radio and  music video shoots. 

The advantages of being an independent artist:

• Able to convey their own individual image,style.
• Most of their sale profit goes to artist in comparison to a major label artist where profit goes  to sponsors 
• no royalty fees
• Able to be more creatively free in their musical art form such as writing their own lyrics,producing their own beats.
• no binding contracts ;able to go into other business ventures without restrictions .
• can still promote through  use of social websites

          The disadvantages of being an independent artist:

• Less mass appeal
• Limited funds to promote the artist
• Lack of touring opportunities  because of the lack of companies links to concert promoters

      The advantages of being a Major artist:

• Huge exposure through media presence-TV,talk-shows,radio and magazines
• more funding to tour,produce,style the artist and have a song writing team for the artist
• Wider  fan base
• Marketing sponsors
• Huge budget

The disadvantages of being a major artist:

• Less creative control
• Music company and songwriters take royalties from profit made from singles,album sales and tours.
• Most major label artist cannot leave their company until the remaining time because of the legal binding contract.

Typical Major label music videos:

• Use of green screen room
• specialist effects in the music video
• dance crew
• props
• brand sponsors such as "beats" headphones included in the video 
• multiple shots 
• continuous artist costume changes 

Typical independent label artist music videos:

• Minimal cast usually just the artist in the video
• less special effects 
• less "glamourous"
• Artist playing an instrument

Record labels

Within the music industry there are many record labels, these are some of them, from this research we can create our own record label image. Arecord label can distinguish whether it is for a niche audience or a mainstream audience, the images above are usually aimed at a mainstream audience. For our artist we are going to aim it at a niche audience. We need to think of a name for our record label which we can then make an image for it.
